Mundelein

Guillermo Bleichmar

After a couple of glasses of wine
they founded Mundelein
in Illinois.

The stars were blurry
but the roads were alright,
and people came anyway
from all over to settle
the town.

Now every spring
in Mundelein the men stand barefoot
on one side of Main Street

and the women
on the other.

They meet in the middle
and hold one another lightly by the waist

to dance.

Two words only
of German remain:

The men come close and say
vielleicht.

The women sway
(and smile and say)
genau.
