Song for John
The moon sheds its orange husk like an onion.
Turn out these city lights. I want a night
as dark as soil, the moon mounting the sky
like a white coach. I want a wild omelet
in my belly: vinegar and chives,
and cold, cheap wine. I want always to be poor
and young, and stark like this,
with you, in the dark, in the cold.
